- BY KELUM BANDARA

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stressed at a meeting with the Cabinet ministers that the government should press ahead with organic farming no matter how challenging it was, Daily Mirror learns.

However, he has reportedly asked Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana to look for an alternative for tea cultivation. He asked Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to make sure that fertilizer is made available to farmers without any further delay.

The Minister is reported to have informed that organic fertilizer will be made available for rice farmers across the country before October 15.

The Agriculture Ministry is now planning to import organic nitrogen extract from India and China to be used in rice farming on a mass scale for the first time.
