India cruise past Nepal in SAFF thriller

India cruised to an exciting 1-0 victory over Nepal in their SAFF Football Championsh­ip match played under lights at the National Stadium in the Maldives yesterday.

After a scoreless first half, India produced the match winning goal in the 82nd minute when their striker Sunil Chhetri found the net following a good pass from teammate F. Choudhary.

This win was important for India as they kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the final by securing third place in the points table with one match still in hand.

Despite the defeat, Nepal still continued to occupy the second place in the points table having collected six points from their three outings.

The two top teams of the points table will qualify to play in the final encounter on October 16.
