Youth and Sports and Development Coordination and Monitoring Minister and Digital Technology and Enterprise Development State Minister Namal Rajapaksa was on an inspection tour of the Hambantota International Port (HIP) over the weekend.

The port officials from all departments were available to answer questions regarding the development process of the Hambantota Port. With ‘HIPG Speed’ now used as the blueprint for attracting investments into the industrial zone within the port, the minister was kept briefed on the processes used to attract FDIS into the country.

Namal Rajapaksa in turn assured the government support with regard to creating the right environment for foreign direct investment into the Port of Hambantota.

In September, the total throughput of the Hambantota Port reached 1.7 million tonnes, which almost equals the total throughput in 2020. In the year 2021, HIP successfully entered into agreements to establish the plug and play ‘Park in Park’ manufacturing facility and a state-ofthe-art yacht building facility at the port. HIPG’S Port Investment Services team is currently in China holding discussions with investors for future projects.

HIPG CEO Johnson Liu and HIPG COO Tissa Wickremasinghe were also present to brief the minister on vital issues with regard to port operations and development.
