STF detects illicit fags worth over Rs.20 Mn

A large stock of illegal cigarettes worth over Rs.20 million, which had been smuggled into the country was seized by the Police Special Task Force (STF) from Kelaniya yesterday along with two suspects.

Officials of the STF Organised Crime Detection Unit II arrested a 21-year-old youth from Gonawala area in Kelaniya along with 6, 800 sticks of Gold Mount cigarettes, the sale of which is prohibited in Sri Lanka.

Having questioned the suspect the STF personnel raided a house in the same area and took a 48-year-old person along with 257, 000 sticks of cigarettes of the brands Platinum and Manchester.

The two suspects along with the contraband had been handed over to the Kelaniya Police for further investigations.
