Passed Pawn Chess Club on top at Stage I

Passed Pawn Chess Club represente­d by WIM Sachini Ranasinghe (Captain), WIM Nelunika Metmani, WIM from India K. Savitha, WFM Dasuni Hansika Mendis and WCM Sanudula Dahamdi claimed first place at the CFSL online Women Team Chess Championsh­ips last Sunday. Passed Pawn team scored a total of 14 match points out of possible 14, winning all their seven matches convincing­ly. They beat Negambo Chess Academy (4-0), SABRA Women’s CC (4-0), Castle Siege CC (4-0), Mayor’s Chess Club (3½ - ½), Black Knight Chess Club (3-1), Kriegspiel Chess Academy (4-0) and Super Fighters CC (2½ -1½ ) convincing­ly.

Mayor’s Chess Club with Kaveesha Indrajith, HMMD Herath, WIM from India Michelle Catherine, BSMT Cooray and DADT Srilal stood close at the second spot with 12 match points out of 14. They lost to Passed Pawns (½ - 3 ½ ) but beat all other six teams they met Black Knight Chess Club- Ruby (4-0) (2½ -1½), Kriegspiel Chess Academy (4-0) Black Knight Chess Club (2½ -1½), Castle Siege CC (3-1), Zugzwang Queen (4-0) and Queen Star Chess Academy A (4 -0) to score 12 points.

Kriegspiel Chess Academy team from Ambalangod­a with Minethma Wickramasi­nghe, Esandi Newansa, Sayumi Gamage and Siluni Nevinka De Silva finished in the third spot with ten points out of 14. They lost to Passed Pawns and Mayor’s but came back strongly beating all other five teams they met, Queen Star Chess Academy A (4 -0), Super Fighters CC – Team A (4-0), Super Fighters CC (3-1),Dharmasoka College (2½ -1½) and SABRA Women’s CC (3-1).

The second stage of the event is the knock-out round between the first four teams as given below.

Semi-final 1 will be between Passed Pawn CC vs No. 4, Black Knight CC followed by the second semi-final between Mayor’s CC vs Kriegsple Chess Academy.

The finals will be between the winner of SF 1 and winner of SF 2.

The loser of SF 1 and will meet loser of SF 2 for the Consolatio­n finals.

The semi-finals will be played on 11th of January while the finals and Consolatio­n finals will be played on 12th of January 2022 starting at 6:00 p.m. The second game on each day will start at 7:30 p.m. The details of live streaming will be announced soon.
