Message from President SAFA and Vice President CMA Sri Lanka
As the President of South Asian Federation of Accountants, I have a responsibility, to take the accountancy profession across the South Asian region. This is in addition to my role as the Vice President of CMA where we promote the Management Accounting Profession in the country.
Several organizations in the SAARC countries, have taken many initiatives to promote integrated reporting and encourage all corporates to adhere to integrated reporting. It is noted that, an increasing number of organizations across the region are implementing integrated reporting as they have realized, corporate reporting that focuses, solely on financial numbers, fails, to paint, the full picture of their organizations, value to investors and other stakeholders.
With a view to encourage the adoption of integrated reporting in the South Asian region, SAFA introduced a separate award category under “The Best Presented Accounts awards” which is an important event in the annual calendar of SAFA and leading Sri Lankan Companies were able to compete with other countries and bagged many awards in the past.
When it comes to the CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards, over the past six years, we could witness an overwhelming number of companies both quoted and unquoted, private and government institutions applying for the CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards showing that this awards competition is widely accepted by the business community. I myself have got involved with this annual event from the inception and happy to note that Sri Lanka is in the forefront of Integrated Reporting in the Asian Region and need to be recognized as it is done voluntarily. To maintain the credibility, CMA always ensures to engage an eminent Panel of Judges who are internationally repute and experts on Integrated Reporting backed by competent technical evaluators.
I take this opportunity to wish and congratulate all award winners and thank the companies and other organizations who have participated for the IR Awards competition and more importantly for your presence to witness this prestigious annual event.
