The Education Ministry has green lit the restart of school sports which had been stalled during the last two years because of COVID-19, from March 7.

The school sports calendar for 2022 has been submitted to the Education Ministry Secretary, Daya Bandara the Director of Sports at the Education Ministry told the Daily Mirror.

Circuit and zonal meets will be held in April and May while national level competitions will be held in September and October at the Sugathadasa Stadium, according to the plan.

The Education Ministry Secretary issuing a directive has granted permission for school sports associations to conduct annual competitions this year.

Meanwhile, annual elections of school sports associations which could not be held for the past two years should be held before March 31.

Since national level sports tournaments could not be held during the last two years, some students were also deprived of gaining entry to university.

Among the major events that could not be held was the Sir John Tarbat Athletic Championship.
