The Colombo YWCA is a Charitable Organization that has been serving society, especially its less privileged segments, for many years. Hence, it established The Public Affairs and Girl Child Centre in 1996 to promote the cause of the Girl Child and Women in Sri Lanka.

Shirani de Fonseka, Chairperson of the Centre with the assistance of the Committee Members of the Public Affairs and Girl Child Centre organized an event to mark the “International women’s Day” for the women/men staff working in the Colombo YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association).

It was decided by the Committee to contribute a bag of dry rations which are daily requirements to each worker, especially at a time when there is an acute need considering the present situation prevailing in the country.

The President of the YWCA and other Committee members donated very generously towards this project in cash/ kind. Some members also contributed separately.

They were able to give away a bag of dry rations to each staff member which consists of 12 food items including other individual gift items as well. The staff were very pleased to receive this donation in kind and thanked the donors for their generosity.
