SJB clears its stand on interim government

Attanyake told journalist­s that the SJB will back proposals that have been made by the Bar Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (BASL).

“The first steps towards resolving the political crisis is the resignatio­n of incumbent Prime Minister while steps also should be taken to abolish the Executive Presidency and we urge for the enacting of the 21st Amendment to the constituti­on,” he said.

“We also call for the resignatio­n of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as that is the main demand of the protesters at Galle Face,” he also said.

“Attanayake said the SJB will consider active participat­ion in an interim government only after effective steps are taken to reform the constituti­on and the resignatio­n of Prime Minister and the cabinet.

Meanwhile SJB MP S. M. Marikkar said his party is not prepared to sit in the Cabinet with those such as Vasudeva Nanayakkar­a.
