SJB clears its stand on interim government
Attanyake told journalists that the SJB will back proposals that have been made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
“The first steps towards resolving the political crisis is the resignation of incumbent Prime Minister while steps also should be taken to abolish the Executive Presidency and we urge for the enacting of the 21st Amendment to the constitution,” he said.
“We also call for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as that is the main demand of the protesters at Galle Face,” he also said.
“Attanayake said the SJB will consider active participation in an interim government only after effective steps are taken to reform the constitution and the resignation of Prime Minister and the cabinet.
Meanwhile SJB MP S. M. Marikkar said his party is not prepared to sit in the Cabinet with those such as Vasudeva Nanayakkara.
