A group of thugs who had come from an outside area had attacked the residents of Mahahunupitiya in Negombo with sharp weapons and set fire to around fifteen vehicles yesterday. Four residents who had been injured in the incident have been admitted to Negombo Hospital.

The incident had taken place following another incident where a well-known hotel in the area had been set on fire amidst countrywide unrest on Monday.

The people who had attacked the residents had attempted to create communal tension as well while rampaging the area, but the religious leaders had thwarted their attempt.
