Peace must return!

-

The violent aftermath of the Galle Face protests has ended up on a rather unpleasant note. Many doubt whether there is more to the ‘88/89 insurrections than what has been reported on mainstream media. People were elated to see houses and vehicles of ministers being attacked. But it is rather surprising that none of the ministers were present at their official/private residences when they were being torched. Some are of the view that the politicians set fire to their houses on their own.the truth is yet to be known.

Serious doubts have raised with regards to the conduct of the police, the fact that they allowed the angry mob of pro-rajapaksa supporters to advance towards the Galle Face Green, that the Police executed a delayed response to fire tear gas at the mob and had made no attempt to disperse the crowd.the IGP and authorities that are responsible to look into public security has failed in their duties to restore peace in the country. The Army has now been deployed to check vehicles and security has been tightened. But why there were no security forces to protect people remains a doubt. Protesters were seen questioning Army personnel and Police officers as to why they are making many an attempt to protect a family while people are being assaulted or beaten to death. Peace, after all, is what every citizen truly deserves.
