‘THE EXTRA MILE’
The Launch of ‘The Extra Mile' By Dr Gamini Goonetilleke, a well known surgeon was held recently at the Auditorium of the College of Surgeons. The book tells of his wide experience as a surgeon on his life's journey. Dr Goonetilleke is known as a dedicated surgeon and this is his second book about his experiences in the war zone during the years of our war. He has had many chilling experiences but, being a devout Christian, has helped him to overcome obstacles with faith, courage, total commitment and dedication to his work. Speakers at the launch included Dr Anula Wijesundera,mr S. Skanda Kumar, former High Commissioner to Australia and former Head of George Steuarts, Dr Satish Goonesinghe, President College of Surgeons. Among other distinguished guests were Dr Alison Lennigan, Dr John Ferguson, Dr Nitin Chandrakant Shrotri from The College of Physicians and Surgeons, Deshamanya M.D.D. Pieris and Mrs Pieris and six wounded people, now recovered. His previous book was titled 'The Siege of the Jaffna Fort' and 'The story of an Injured Policeman'. I'm sure his new book will be a good read too.
