Veteran athlete and administra­tor P. Don Victor laid to rest

The final rites of veteran athlete and administra­tor P. Don Victor took place recently. He was 88 at the time of his death.

Sri Lanka’s long jump champion in the 1950s and a Ceylon (national) record holder, P. Don Victor represente­d the country at 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and Cardiff Commonweal­th Games.

He was General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Amateur Athletic Associatio­n from 1986 to 1991.

He stood out as an administra­tor becoming a Council memeber of the Asian Athletic Associatio­n for five years.

He held office in two of Sri Lanka’s oldest athletic clubs - Ace SC and Lanka Lions SC and played a great role in developing the sport in the country.
