Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is reported to have ensured the political parties that he will initiate steps to introduce political reforms and anti-corruption laws.he has promised this in his engagement with the representatives of the political parties.
There has been a call for the introduction of a new constitutional amendment to prune powers of the executive presidency to be vested with Parliament.
Such parliamentary powers had been introduced in terms of the 19th Amendment. However, they were scrapped by the incorporation of the 20th Amendment.
Now there is a call to bring back such powers to Parliament.
