Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesi­nghe is reported to have ensured the political parties that he will initiate steps to introduce political reforms and anti-corruption laws.he has promised this in his engagement with the representa­tives of the political parties.

There has been a call for the introducti­on of a new constituti­onal amendment to prune powers of the executive presidency to be vested with Parliament.

Such parliament­ary powers had been introduced in terms of the 19th Amendment. However, they were scrapped by the incorporat­ion of the 20th Amendment.

Now there is a call to bring back such powers to Parliament.
