Galle Face attack: PROBE ON CORRECT TRACK?

- Nihal De Alwis

This incident will go down in history as the only terrorist attack orchestrated by a Prime Minister on his own countrymen, aided and abetted by many Cabinet Ministers and prominent Politicians and of course by a Senior DIG.

Anyone who watched the ugly incidents on TV, the coverage of the Temple Trees meeting and their movements thereafter, could never deny the fact that the crowds were incited.the most shocking to me as an Ex cop, is that the Senior DIG was wearing smiles and having a friendly or cordial chat with those who were eagerly pushing the Police.

After the crowd was incited what action did the Senior DIG or even the IGP take in anticipation of the crowd becoming restive and obviously wanting to move to attack the innocent peaceful protesters?

It is a very sad state, where the police is concerned to merely stand and watch this attack with those at Temple Trees who were armed with clubs, whilst they failed miserably to counter it with tear Gas, water Guns, or even batten Charge! Why the Police of today have no backbone to standup to politicians and apply the rule of law equally. this is because of very poor leadership.

I have never heard during our time in the Police taking orders from an Attorney General.ag is there for a different purpose, not to give orders to the police but to evaluate the evidence in cases and take appropriate action.

How can the CID conduct an impartial investigation as some senior officer in the CID is purported to have been closely associated with MR? Can we expect justice? An independent team consisting of a reputed retired Supreme Court Judge Like Priyasad Dep should have been appointed to ensure a transparent investigation if the Public are to expect justice.the Prime suspect is the former Prime Minister, how can the AG skip such a glaring omission?

The public are being taken for a ride in this investigation as those who initiated this crime are at large, but those who suffered due to economic issues are in remand! I do not for a moment condone violence in the manner some people behaved in destroying public and private property, but investigations must be done with impartiality and apply the law equally.

Where was our Intelligence services and their accurate intelligence ? How is that they never warned or alerted the authorities, of these possibilities? If you have “STOOGES” handling intelligence this is the outcome!
