Dananjaya, who had failed to reach double-figures in each of his three previous knocks on tour while opening the batting, pushed himself down to number four, seeking a change in fortunes.the shift paid dividends for the left-hander as he helped the Development XI recover from a tricky 127 for 5 earlier in the day.

Avishka Tharindu (48) combined with the skipper for an important stand of 82 before being dismissed on the cusp of his half-century. Manelker De Silva was the other overnight batter, unbeaten on 13.

The 19-year-old fast-bowler, Thomas Lawes, who dismissed Sri Lanka’s top three in his first spell, was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts.
