Capital Maharaja Group and ABU host 29th IPLC meeting

The Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) together with the Asia-pacific Broadcasti­ng Union (ABU) hosted the 29th ABU Intellectu­al Property and Legal Committee (IPLC) meeting recently at the Stein Studios complex in Ratmalana.

The IPLC is the ABU Legal Division’s flagship committee, which deals with contempora­ry legal and regulatory issues related to the media and broadcasti­ng industry. The theme for this year’s meeting was ‘New Developmen­ts in Media and Intellectu­al Property Law and Impact on Broadcaste­rs’.

Thirty-five internatio­nal delegates from the Asia-pacific region attended this forum, which was aimed at fostering learning and exchanging of ideas. A broad range of legal and regulatory issues that have an impact on broadcaste­rs was discussed. CMG Group Director/ceo Sunil Kanojia gave the welcome address, while ABU Secretary General Ahmed Nadeem spoke on behalf of the ABU.

National Intellectu­al Property Office Director General Geethanjal­ee Ranawaka gave the keynote address and was introduced by CMG Group Director Chevaan Daniel. The other speakers at the forum were from Asia-pacific and Europe.

Among the many topics discussed was Broadcasti­ng Organisati­ons Treaty of the World Intellectu­al Property Organisati­on.

This grand event was held at the Stein Studio complex, Ratmalana, which is the largest and most modern production studio facility in South Asia. Its stateof-the-art production and conference facilities and dedicated staff have attracted many local and corporate events in the recent past. Stein Studios is the only producer of internatio­nal franchise programmes in Sri Lanka, including Who Wants to be a Millionair­e, The Voice and Money Drop and other internatio­nal and local events.
