Anura claims victory while Reshan shines among amateurs
Professional Golfer Anura Rohana’s remarkable display of talent and unwavering focus over four days of solid golf secured his position as the overall winner in a highly competitive Sri Lanka Golf Union (Slgu)-conducted ranking and Asian Games qualification event that took place at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) recently. Meanwhile, in the Amateur segment,it was once again the 15-year-old Reshan Algama who was in prime form,winning the event.
Maintaining a steady lead throughout the four days of competition, an ur a beat his opponent, N.thangarajah, by an impressive three-shot margin, finishing with an overall score of 274.
The tournament saw some top-class golf among seasoned professionals, all vying for the prestigious tops pot.k.p ra bag a ran exhibited incredible skills and determination, ending the tournament as the runner-up with an outstanding total score of 279.Senior Pro Mithun Perera and Reshan finished tied for fourth place with a score of 282, showcasing their formidable skills on the beautiful green top at RCGC.
While the professional leaderboard was highly impressive,it was the exceptional performances of the amateurs that caught the attention of the spectators.among them, Reshan continued to shine in the presence of renowned Sri Lankan Pros and Amateurs. Reshan, who made history earlier this year by becoming the youngest ever winner of the Sri Lankan Amateur Ranking Tournament, secured his second consecutive amateur victory in this tournament.
Reshan’s outstanding performance over the four days, featuring two 2-under par rounds and an overall score of 2-under par,is set to propel him to great heights in the world rankings. Haroon Aslam, another star youngster and talented golfer currently studying and playing in the United States of America, was pushed to the number 6 slot after he ended with a score of 291.
Uchitha Akash, son of veteran pro golfer Anura, showcased his skills among the amateur competitors, finishing in an impressive third place with a score of 303.Uchitha’s exceptional performance was closely followed by other leading Sri Lankan amateurs: Chanaka Perera with a score of 306 and Chalitha Pushpika with a score of 311.
The tournament, organised by the Slgu,showcased the immense talent and potential of both Professional and Amateur golfers in Sri Lanka.
