Sampath Bank’s Drive to Empower Female Entrepreneurs
As the world marks March 8th each year, we come together to celebrate International Women’s Day, a moment dedicated to honoring the achievement of women both locally and globally. This day serves not only as a celebration but also as a poignant reminder of the progress women have made and the challenges that still lie ahead. Despite the significant strides towards gender equality there is much more work to be done.
Sampath Bank, which is constantly devoted itself to the advancement of women in Sri Lanka and providing them with the necessary facilities and support to uplift their lives, on International Women’s Day, worked to appreciate the women representing the SME sector of the nation with the launch of its program “Nonawathina Eya,”
As part of this campaign Sampath Bank initiated a panel discussion, offering solutions to the challenges faced by women in starting and running enterprises. The panel featured four keynote female entrepreneurs who have established successful partnerships with Sampath Bank, providing valuable insights from experts in the field. At the forefront of this discussion is Mrs. Ayodhya Iddawela Perera, the pioneering Managing Director of Sampath Bank PLC who incidentally is the 1st female Managing Director of the bank in its 35 years of history. Mrs. Perera has 34 years of banking experience and international exposure.
Joining Mrs. Ayodhya Iddawela Perera will be Ms. Senani Warusawithana - Co-founder of Senani Food Products, Dr. Dilesha Chandima Perera - Co-founder of La Vivente, Ms. Achini Jayasinghe - Director of Aroma Bliss Ceylon and Ms. Manel Rajkumar - Director of D & R Exports (Pvt) Ltd.
The forum will be conducted entirely in Sinhala, allowing panelists to freely share their insights, challenges, and success stories, providing a platform for meaningful discussions on women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.
