Path SC clinch Beruwala Division Inter Club Championsh­ips

Path SC registered a resounding victory at the Beruwala Division Inter

Club Championsh­ip to bag the Overall Championsh­ip of the multi sports event concluded with the Athletics Championsh­ip at the Public Grounds Aluthgama on last Saturday.

Path SC Beruwala aggregated 138 points to clinch the championsh­ip. Starlight SC with 102 points were the runners up. Path SC were represente­d by athletes training at the Path Academy.they dominated track and field events to clinch both the Athletics Championsh­ip and the Overall title.while triple jumper H.P.T. Warnakulas­ooriya was adjudged the Best Athlete in the men’s category, sprinter Kushani Madusanki received the award for the Best Athlete in the women’s category.

In the Under 16 Inter Schools Athletics Championsh­ip held alongside the main event Holy Cross College, Payagala and Sangamitht­ha Balika, Aluthgama were the boys’ and girls’ champions respective­ly. In the Under 16 category, Pansilu Akash of Pothuvila National School and Inari Hasara of Sangamitht­ha Balika, Aluthgama were the boys’ and girls’ best athletes respective­ly.

The winners received their awards and certificat­es from Olympian Jayamini Illeperuma and Beruwala Divisional Secretary M. Ranjan P. Perera who graced the simple closing ceremony. Olympian Nimmi de Zoysa, the Sports Officer of the Division conducted the multi sports event under the auspices of the Divisional Secretaria­t and the Western Province Sports Ministry. Apart from trophies and certificat­es the winners were also given away training accessorie­s. It was the first time in many years the winners received such gifts.
