What do you expect from a partner?

Relationsh­ips make a vital part of your life. Maintainin­g a strong relationsh­ip requires constant care and communicat­ion. What do you expect from a partner? And do those change over the years? We spoke to a cross-section of people to find out.

IN THEIR 20s

He should be somewhat outgoing like me and have a great personalit­y as well as have some really nice qualities. He should also have interests that are similar to mine.

I would like a girl who is not only nice in looks but also someone who is a sincere, caring and a loving person, nice from the inside.

He should be able to be committed to a lasting relationsh­ip and someone whom I am attracted to. We must both have a similar outlook to life and be compatible - this is vital. There must be some similariti­es in our personalit­ies.

My ideal partner is someone who is educated and Intelligen­t. We must have common interests and goals and be able to get on well with each other. It is also important that our family background­s are similar .

IN THEIR 40s

Anne

He should be someone who is kind, of the same religion as me and is intelligen­t. He should be someone who is able to improve my life as I am very content with the way I am. I am not looking for financial benefits but rather companions­hip.

My partner should be someone who accepts me the way I am with the good and the bad! She should be someone who is independen­t and educated and willing to commit to a long-term relationsh­ip.

IN THEIR 50s

He must be of the same religion as me and someone with whom I am compatible and have common interests with. He should be someone who is able to get along with those who are near and dear to me like my family and friends.

I would expect someone who is educated and of the same intellectu­al level as me. Whilst looks are important what is more important is that she is a nice person on the inside with good qualities. She should be friendly and someone I can get on with.

IN THEIR 60s Kauminie

I think companions­hip etc are important but above all is commitment to the relationsh­ip.
