SEMINI SLAPPED WITH SUSPENSION FOR DOPING
The Sri Lanka Antidoping Agency (SLADA) and the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) have temporally suspended former national captain Semini Alwis from the national netball pool for having allegedly used prohibited stimulants and for failing a doping test.
Semini has been asked to report to the SLADA Headquarters in Bloemendhal Road, Colombo on May 14 for a special inquiry and to reveal her excuse for the alleged complaint to the authorities.
Semini, who represented the country at two Netball World Cup Tournaments and led the Sri Lanka Team at the
2015 Sydney World Cup in Australia, is the first netball player from the Asian region to fail a doping test conducted by the WADA.
Semini is a key member of the national netball pool set up by the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) in preparation for the 13th Asian Netball Championship, which will be held from September 26 to October 6 in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Semini informed the SLADA and the netball authorities that she had never used a prohibited substance but had consumed syrup for beauty care and to reduce her obesity.
Meanwhile, NFSL President Lakshmi Victoria has informed the incident with the Director General of the Department of Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports Professor Shemal Fernando and other responsible parties before heading towards the next step.
