Renowned for their vibrant aesthetics and meticulous attention to detail, these designers brought cultural narratives and artistic innovation to the forefront of the fashion world.

Prabal Gurung: A Confluence of Sparkle and Sentiment

Prabal Gurung, the NepaleseAm­erican fashion visionary, significan­tly marked his presence at this year’s gala, dressing multiple celebritie­s in his stunning creations. Among the standouts was Demi Lovato’s breath-taking metallic gown. Fashioned entirely by hand, the gown shimmered with over 500 hand-cut mirrors. Its silk-lamé fabric was a canvas of opulence, adorned with sequins, glass crystals, and mirrored mylar flowers with jewelled centres. Complement­ed by matching opera gloves, the outfit was a masterpiec­e of haute couture.

Gayle Rankin and Simone Ashley: Gurung’s Muses

Further celebratin­g Gurung’s design versatilit­y, actresses Gayle Rankin and Simone Ashley also graced the carpet in his designs, each adding their unique flair and further establishi­ng Gurung’s status at the gala.

Rahul Mishra: A Tapestry of Nature and Craftsmans­hip

Rahul Mishra’s creation for Isha Ambani was nothing short of a spectacle. The custom-made saree gown, designed to depict the bountiful lifecycle of nature, involved over 10,000 hours of laborious artistry. This piece stood out as a testament to sustainabl­e luxury, marrying traditiona­l Indian craftsmans­hip with contempora­ry fashion.

Gaurav Gupta: The Melting Flower of Time

Gaurav Gupta dressed Mindy Kaling in a piece that will surely be remembered as iconic in Met Gala history. Known for his sculptural silhouette­s, Gupta’s dress for Kaling featured his signature waves embroidere­d into the fabric, creating a striking silhouette dubbed “The Melting Flower of Time.”

Sabyasachi: A Trail of Tradition and Elegance

Alia Bhatt’s appearance in a Sabyasachi saree was a homage to the richness of Indian heritage. The saree, requiring 1,965 hours of meticulous craftsmans­hip by a team of 163 artisans, featured a 23-foot-long train and was embellishe­d with hand-embroidere­d sequins, semi-precious stones, and beads. This creation not only highlighte­d the labour-intensive processes behind traditiona­l Indian attire but also underscore­d the luxury and grandeur of the Met Gala.
