Emirates is working on several sustainability initiatives as part of its long-term vision to preserve Planet Earth. One of these is the airline’s commitment to reducing single-use plastics on board its aircraft. A full review of the plastics on board has been conducted, and a series of initiatives to tackle plastic waste is expected to be implemented over the coming months. Eco-friendly paper straws have already been introduced, and plastic bags and plastic swizzle sticks will soon be replaced with eco-friendly alternatives. Plastic bottles are segregated and recycled, and this is estimated to divert 150,000 plastic bottles from landfills each month. Two years ago, Emirates introduced ecoTHREAD™ blankets, which are made from recycled plastic bottles. This initiative is estimated to save about 88 million plastic bottles from landfills by the end of the year.
