Ah October! Are you ready for the chilled vibes of fall to fill the air? Its chilly winds slowly creep up on us this time of the year along with the rustic colours that paint the autumnal landscape in temperate climes. And let’s not forget that despite the peaceful image we’ve painted, this month also brings with it some of the most energetic festivities of the year! In New York, the Big Apple is taken over by Manhattan’s elite ghouls, zombie brides and spooky renditions of your favourite caped crusaders as the revered Monster Ball Halloween party dominates the inner sanctums of the city’s night life. It’s a night of hedonistic revelry with a pinch of mayhem and mischief!

Across the pond, cocktail lovers are clinking their glasses as they set abuzz the annual London Cocktail Week. Collect a 10 euro pass, and you will have access to more than 250 bars and restaurants across the city… not to mention curated cocktail tours, paired meals and entry into the self-contained cocktail village at Old Spitalfields Market. Cheers, indeed!

Witness the magnificent display of human strength at the Concurs De Castells in Tarragona, Spain, where thousands gather and compete to form Catalonia’s fabled human towers. Although the tower competition is the main event, Catalan culture is also on display in many ways – think parades, street performances, musical shows and concerts. The ‘Human Tower Biennial Competition’ is listed by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. If you’re an avid reader, a published writer or a lover of all things literary, you should attend the Frankfurter Buchmesse (FBM or Frankfurt Book Fair). It’s an annual event where creative industry leaders, writers, publishing experts and cultural enthusiasts from across the planet meet, to network, negotiate, celebrate and marvel. This 500-year-old event holds a place of honour as the world’s largest book fair; it showcases more than 7,000 exhibitors from 100 countries and hosts nearly 300,000 visitors annually.

Meanwhile, a number of movies are making a comeback such as The Addams Family where Charlize Theron makes her debut in animated movies; Jessie Eisenberg’s Columbus is back to slay more of the undead in ‘Zombieland: Double Tap’; and Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent is also making an appearance in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.’

The haunted celebration of Halloween is no stranger to Colombo as the city has embraced this spooky holiday over the years. You can rest assured that 2019 promises no less with a multitude of events happening across the commercial capital throughout October.
