Show off those curves

Pia Hatch offers A Host of tips to look shapely

-

Gone are the days when we needed to be shy about seeking help from shapewear. With countless celebrities freely admitting to rocking a pair of Spanx or two on the red carpet and many including Kim Kardashian coming up with shapewear lines of their own, it’s become almost as much a fashion statement as the clothes we wear.

Shapewear will match any body shape

THAT IDEAL BRA Don’t buy a full body shaper. Choose shapewear separate from your bra. First choose the ideal bra for its fit and suitability; then select the best shaped control garment.

MULTIPLE SIZES One shapewear size doesn’t fit everyone so accept the fact that you may need several pieces of shapewear. After all, the last thing you want is an undergarment peeking out of the top, back or bottom of your outfit!

THE BODY SHAPE Shapewear will match any body shape. Apple shapes should opt for a range that offers double layer tummy shaping – and stay away from shapers that cut off at the waist. Pear shapes generally need help with a lower tummy pouch, and options like ‘power shorts’ help to smooth and sculpt your lower torso, as well as hips. Hourglass figures will benefit from the same as pear shapes.

THE RIGHT SIZE You may be able to fit into shapewear that’s your regular size as well as a size smaller or larger. Your choice should be based on the desired result – do you want it very strong to pull you in or are you simply looking for comfort and a gentle smoothing of your figure?

COOLER COLOURS Shapewear is generally available in black or nude while some offer ivory and burgundy tones. For light to olive skinned women, nude or ivory is best. For those who have darker skin tones, black may be a better option.
