Manufacturer and distributor of water management solutions, S-lon Lanka launched a community service initiative recently in partnership with News First and Sri Lanka Scout Association. Named Thuru Kepakaru, the project’s aim is to plant 25,000 trees across the island’s 25 districts. The plants will have designated scouts as ‘owners,’ who will monitor and record their growth and wellbeing. Each plant has a unique QR code that connects to the Thuru Kepakaru app, thereby streamlining the monitoring process. The project is the brainchild of
Group Director S. C. Weerasekera. Speaking at the inauguration, he noted: “What makes Thuru Kepakaru unique is its focus on sustenance. The design of the project ensures every plant is cared for in the long term. This guarantees that all 25,000 saplings planted today will grow up over time alongside their respective owners.”
