JOHN KEELLS FOUNDATION
Sri Lanka’s popular annual visual art fair, the Kala Pola was hosted as an online event for the first time this year. The month-long event, which was hosted on John Keells Foundation’s digital art gallery site (www.srilankanartgallery. com) from 21 February to 21 March, featured over 4,000 works from 202 Sri Lankan artists. The event garnered a remarkable response, attracting over 56,000 visitors from various parts of the world. More than 240 pieces of art were sold online to buyers in and outside Sri Lanka with artists also receiving commissioned orders. The virtual event featured four fringe events as well, to better engage collectors, artists, children and art lovers. The online event was followed by a one-day pilot popup sale held at Arcade – Independence Square featuring 25 senior artists who have been part of the event for 15 or more years.
