Salgado continues his dominance
Thurstanite Sajeewa Salgado extended his lead by a thicker margin as the Bata- the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the year 2012 approaches the fourth week.
During the third week Salgado collected 510 coupons in his favour and took a good lead in the All- Island Schools category and is yet to receive a close competition from the rest. The cricketing duo from Royal Panadura, Charith Ruchiranga and Kavindu Ashan, have engaged in a close battle but none of them are still in a position to threaten Salgado.
The difference of votes between Ruchiranga and Ashan is just 100 and by the coming week the competition is expected to further fuel up.
Meanwhile Thanusha Jayawardane of St. Peter’s suddenly joined the fray among the top five while coming in behind St. Benedict’s skipper Jason Perera by a margin of six votes. Maristonian Shehan Dilasri and Trinitian Akila jayasundera are possible cricketers who can create a healthy competition as it progresses.
In the Emerging Schools category only four cricket- ers are still in the battle but with the number of coupons received so far big changes can are expected to take place in the future. Yet Shenal Dilanka of Piliyandala Central is in the lead while the remaining three competitors have a grand opportunity to dominate as weeks pass by.
Meanwhile Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda who enjoyed a one- horse- race in the International Schools category being the only competitor, out of the blues was challenged by Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway International. Kodagoda is just four votes behind Perera. Readers can send in as much as coupons until May 23.
