Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority – Lineup of Training Schedules for 2012

His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapakse, shoulderin­g the responsibi­lities as Hon. Minister of Labour & Vocational Training back in 1995, understood the need to have trained personnel to successful­ly carry the developmen­t oriented programs forward, in order to sustain the multi- faceted developmen­t projects undertaken by the country. Thus, as the then subject Minister, he formed the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority, via the parliament Act No. 12 of 1995 which was the first act approved by the then People’s Alliance government.

In the present context, it is indeed a great achievemen­t for the Authority to establish permanent & on-going training courses under the astute, able and amiable stewardshi­p of Hon. Minister of Youth Affairs & Skills Developmen­t - Mr. Dullas Alahapperu­ma, thus bringing this Authority to fulfill its obligation to the society and country by forging ahead with its mandate of providing vocational training to thousand s of youth living in all parts of the country, thereby readying them to contribute their potential towards economic & social growth of the country through secure and productive employment. The immense support and guidance provided towards all the plans and projects of this Authority by the Hon. Deputy Minister – Mr. Duminda Disanayake ensures that constant monitoring, focus and evaluation­s are diligently kept on track & target. Thus inspired, the entire staff at every level too enthusiast­ically works day in day out, to ensure the success of every project undertaken by this Authority.

With the benefit of 15 years of meticulous­ly planned operations, the Authority is now well fortified to discharge its obligation to the nation, to provide skilled personnel to both local as well as overseas job markets. This is a direct results of methodical feedback obtained from the past, to implementi­ng training courses based on the current needs of the country as well as the world. Hence, under the profession­al management of the Chairman of the Vocational Training Authority the objectives outlined in “Mahinda Chithana” are being consistent­ly realized.

New Initiative­s implemente­d in the Authority’s structure

For the first time, a permanent corporate policy structure has been formulated, whereby subsequent to obtaining approval from the board of Directors, it will be forwarded to the management personnel.

Publishing of a Administra­tive Manual which includes human resource developmen­t policies.

Publishing of Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority’s Training Manual.

Providing of specially trained Advisors to impart knowledge and training similar to foreign methods and technologi­es.

In order to fulfill the objectives under “Qualitativ­e Training , to herald a Qualitativ­e Society in 2012” theme, 150 Training Centers were upgraded to ideal standards and graded as per requiremen­t with necessary improvemen­ts etc. at a cost of Rs. 150 million, thus speeding up developmen­t process.

Implementa­tion of a systematic staff performanc­e appraisal method whereby staff promotions and availabili­ty of staff facilities will be streamline­d.

Acceptance of individual profession­al uniqueness of the staff and offering rele- vant facilities.

Encouragin­g staff to offer positive ideas and plans to enhance the quality of our work output.

New initiative­s in implementi­ng Training methods

Commenceme­nt of new training modules to match the prevailing job market requiremen­ts.

Upgrading the existing training systems.

Acquisitio­n of latest equipment, training technicali­ties and constructi­on methods.

Opening of latest equipment fitted new Training Centers.

Upgrading of existing Practical Training Centers to fully equipped Training Centers..

Obtaining the services of Training Staff who possess up- to- date knowledge and skills.

Providing all students who successful­ly complete the training, further training with opportunit­ies for self employment locally or overseas.

Establishm­ent of Training Hubs to cover all relevant training fields.

The Vocational Training Authority, establishe­d in 1995 August 16th under the auspices of the then Hon. Minister of Labour & Vocational Training and the present His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse, is fully supportive in the implementa­tion of o b j e c t ives stated in “Mahinda Chinthana” This immense support is consistent­ly being provided via making available to the motherland skilled & trained personnel who are efficient and capable to undertake any developmen­t oriented project anywhere. Thus, they have become direct contributo­rs to the wonderful cause of making Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia by 2016.

Taking advantage of the past experience, presently the Authority embarks on a fact finding endearour prior to formulatin­g a particular training module. It helps to provide skilled personnel as per the current job market requiremen­t, which helps prevent surplus supply of personnel to the job market.

The following points have been identified and implemente­d in order to facilitate this ideal state of situation;

Properly identified and job- oriented training methods.

Well qualified & trained Teaching Staff, to provide a qualitativ­e training. Network of Training centre. High recognitio­n for our Certificat­e. Agreements entered into with private sector to provide employment to our trained personnel.

Notifying in advance the pattern of our training schedule and the method of enrollment.

In reference to enrollment­s to follow our training courses, registrati­ons take place in the months of January and July. Awareness about these are created through Gazette Notice and advertisem­ents inserted in Newspaper, TV and Radio as well as provincial notificati­ons.

The relevant training courses are conducted at very affordable fees as full-time or part- time, through periods of 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years. As an organizati­on which exists to empower especially the youth & young adults, we also provide free of charge training to the needy.
