D.S. Senanayake college Colombo 07 sets new record in education

D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 07 has reached great heights in education today by setting another new record of achieving 2 top tens in the G.C.E. A/L Results of 2011. A student Kanishka Chandrathi­lake in the Maths section became the 8th position and S. Mohamed Nuzran in commerce section became 5th position in the Island wide results. .

A total number of 32 students obtained 3 A’ in the advanced level and also have recorded a 51% of students eligibilit­y for university admission.

The members of the staff and the parents are very happy about the performanc­e of the students at D.s.senanayake college, which has a short span of history of 45 years old and was establishe­d in 1971. D.s.senanayake college being a fully owned state institutio­n with state of art infrastruc­tureensure­s a conducive environmen­t for learning through personaliz­ed techniques of imparting knowledge.

The quality of inputs by the members of the staff, the parents, and other associatio­ns connected with the school has paved the way for the success in the GCE A/L results.

Obtaining results alone is not sufficient, but we need to work systematic­ally to achieve better results in future. we are strictly following the new education reforms and adhering to the new teaching process. The principal Mr. D. M. D. Dissanayak­e stated that D.S. Senanayake College is using new effective methods of teaching to enhance the competency based learning process. To meet the new challenges and the competency level of every student, the school has organized a set of educationa­l developmen­t projects from grade 6 to A/ L together with a feed forward assessment process to strenghten the students ability to face the examinatio­n successful­ly.

We are following a student centered, activity oriented, and competency based learning teaching process in the classroom. To give the best education to the children the old boys associatio­n and school developmen­t society has assisted the school administra­tion board by obtaining the services of many profession­als in the education sector and psychiatri­sts in guiding stress relieving methods and examinatio­n fears.

The new teaching strategy adapted by us as per the new education reforms in expected to bring in better results in the near future.

The education developmen­t unit of the school leaded by Deputy Principal Mrs. Lilani Samaranaya­ke has assisted the students in providing special revision sessions, discussion on model papers by lecturers and the new projects has immensely helped students in comprehens­ing new education reforms and producing good results at G.C.E. A/L exam in 2011.
