Stock-piling one recommendation letter after another, running after teachers, getting grades accredited, walking up to the school office and getting your transcripts done - invariably results in endless hours spent gathering information, hours that could have been spent lazily on Facebook or Twitter. So thinks the modern day youth – but even after all the hassle, you might find that all the information you have uncovered will still not be enough to get into the university of your choice. Chances are you’ll end up with more forms to fill, and letters to write. Fear not, for ‘ Tweetuni’ is here to solve the endless woes of the university kind.

‘ Tweetuni’ is an interactive website that allows students to get in touch with universities via tweets. The students will gain almost instantaneous feedback on their queries and questions, while directly in conversation with a university representative. “Information is the key in making the right decision,” says Nadeen Kumarasinghe, who is part of the ‘ Tweetuni’ project, “What we can offer is better information regarding universities, for potential applicants”. Nadeen states that there are currently 18 university representatives on board, actively involved in answering numerous questions posted by students.

These representatives are employed by their respective universities to assist international students with the enrollement process, so they are well- qualified and welltrained and are in the best position to help the applicants.

To access ‘ Tweetuni’ the perspective student must first sign up, and provide details about their study of interest and preferred universities. Once the registration process is complete ‘ Tweetuni’ will recommend universities, and an opportunity to tweet their representatives. If the representatives are not online, appointments can be setup for a convenient time.

The registration period is two weeks, by which time, the project heads at ‘ Tweetuni’ believe, the applicants can get their queries answered.
