Asian senior pro-golf tournament at Victoria golf course

Sri Lanka can be proud with the active promotion of various activities involving the arrival of 'tourists'. However when there is a special Golf Tournament involving Profession­al Golfers it becomes a very enterprisi­ng attraction. Sri Lankan Airlines is in the forefront as the Title Sponsor of 'The Sri Lankan Senior Masters Golf Tournament 2012 to be played through 16-18th February 2012 at the Victoria Golf & Country Club Course in Digana 14kms from Kandy.

Victoria Golf and Internatio­nal Golf Solutions are the Main Co- sponsors of this Tournament where the Senior Masters of the Pro- Golf Tour will be participat­ing in a Pro-am on the 16th of February(day 1) to be worked out on Stableford Points basis. There are 60 Top Pro- Seniors above 50 Years of age, invited to play and they will partner 60 Amateur Golfers who will have the rare opportunit­y to play alongside 'Greats' in the likes of Terry Gayle, Mike Harwood a PGA winner, Sri Lankan Senior Pro Nandasena Perera and many other stars on the Senior Masters Asian Tour.

There is a very attractive 'Purse' up for grabs as the Senior Masters play on the 17th & 18th, the 36 Hole 'Sri Lankan Senior Masters Golf Tournament' for the first time in Sri Lanka which is a rare treat for local golfers and a boost for Internatio­nal Participat­ion and Tourist enjoyment.

28 Handicap Golfer wins RCGC Life Members Cup

The Royal Colombo Golf Club with its rich history of Golf Tournament­s just concluded the Life Members Cup for 2012, a very interestin­g Match-play Tournament open to players with a Handicap of 12 and above played on a match play format with the lower handicap Golfer giving strokes to the higher Handicap Golfer. After many rounds of Golf a relatively 'new' golfer Tissa Nanayakkar­a playing off the maximum 28 Handicap beat Rajeev Rajapakse (16 H'cap) 4 & 3 in the Final.

The Life Members Cup was first played in 1948 and the First winner was Britisher M.G. Williams.

A famous Pediatrici­an Dr. L.O. Abeyratne won in 1949 and a former Captain, President of the RCGC who was also a president of the then Ceylon Golf Union Dr. Lance V. R. Fernando won in 1950.This Tournament has produced several interestin­g winners among them the Late Sam Kadirgamar QC, Michael Fonseka, Lalith Kotalawala, three Abeyewarde­ne's in 1972,1974 & the Centenary Year 1979.This Tournament used to be a 'spring-board' for young and up and coming Golfers to make their mark!
