Istanbul House champs

After eight years, Istanbul House emerged champions at the annual InterHouse sports meet of Zahira College Colombo. The meet was held at the college ground in Maradana last Friday ( 3). Champion Istanbul House collected 125 points to clinch the title while Angora House with 111 points was placed second.

Baghdad House collected 102 points and was placed third in the competitio­n. Former champions Cordova House took up the rear with 97 points. While Istanbul won the overall championsh­ip by 14 points, Angora earned a lot of honours in the track and field events. Mohamed Rizni and Mohamed Abdullah of Angora House were adjudged the champion athletes in the Under21 age category.

The Under- 19 championsh­ip was shared between Mohamed Farhan of Istanbul House and Mohamed Rifaker of Angora House. The Under- 17 championsh­ip went to Mohamed Hamdan of Istanbul House. Athletes of Angora House, Amjad Akram and Atif Faizal won the Under-15 and Under-13 championsh­ips respective­ly.

Angora House went on to win the relay championsh­ip while being adjudged the Best Decorated House in the sports meet as well. The drill display was won by Istanbul House.

Basith Marikkar captained the victorious Istanbul House while Mohamed Rizni, Arshad Madharkhan and Sheikh Hamdan were the respective captains of Angora, Baghdad and Cordova Houses. Colombo Mayor A. J. M. Muzammil was the chief guest of the sports meet while former Zahira, Police and Sri Lanka rugby forward, Ibrahim Hameed graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
