IESL Engineering Course Ceremonially Inaugurated

The Stage 1 of the Engineering Course conducted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by a large number of fresher students, parents, lecturers and staff of the IESL on 28th January at the Head Office of the institution at 120/ 15, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07.
The course has become a lifeline to many students aspiring to be qualified engineers but unable to gain entrance to the universities due to the higher education bottleneck in the country.
The panel of lecturers is drawn from experienced part time lecturers from state universities and the wider industry. Practical classes are conducted at the University of Moratuwa and the Open University of Sri Lanka. Accordingly the course is the most privileged and the best available pathway next to the state univer- sities to become a qualified engineer recognized by the government. Students who have passed the A/L’S in the mathematics stream are eligible to join
While the full duration of the course is 5yrs the curriculum is designed for three levels with students being entitled to qualifications at the completion of each level thus enabling students to pursue engineering studies at their own convenience.
The qualification received at the full completion of the course is equivalent to the 4 year engineering degree course qualifications of university graduates passing out of the state universities of the country.
