PMICC reiterates importance of International Student Leadership Day

-

The INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS LEADERSHIP DAY ( ISLD) is celebrated all over the world ON 3RD FEB 2012. The PMI’S education Foundation program ( PMIEF) is focused on developing student leaders across the world and places a strong emphasis on this growth in 2012.

Keeping with the visions of PMI USA, PMI Colombo Sri Lanka is dedicated this year to focus on Youth and Student leadership development programs Island wide. Plans are in place to Conduct Seminars, Workshops and create awareness of the value of Project management Knowledge to ‘Manage Youth Life effectively’ by maintaining a balance between life at college and personal life

This was communicated by President of PMI Colombo Sri Lanka Hugo Wisidagama at a discussion with The Education Times.

A recent visitor to Sri Lanka, the Former President of India Drabudlkalam has dedicated his life to Student Development Programs as his Way of directly addressing the minds and hearts of Youth to transform them to be good Productive Citizens. In a Sri Lankan context, there is immensevalue in imparting Project Management knowledge to Students at this critical moment after 30 years of unprecedented leadership opportunities in Sri Lanka. Our Future leaders are today our Student, who will take control in many areas such as Social, Professional, Academic, Spiritual even Political sphere.

Is our country ready with such future leaders?

Certainly we are short of such professionals today and tomorrow. PMI SRI LANKA is dedicated to services where it is needed and help with PMI education foundation course material and workshop and our volunteerprofessional leaders will share their leadership and project skills while delivering these modules. International youth leadership day is targeted at opening the minds and hearts of our youth and to pledge to take life as a true challenge and deliver outstanding results.

Leaders are Born or made? Debatable point

We strongly believe that leaders are not only born, but can also be made. There is a need for a large number of leaders in different sectors to transform a developing nation into a developed nation. With this belief, PMICC is providing a platform through which young students could be shaped into future leaders. We need industry and Nation Ready Leaders to play a significant role in the development of a nation. If we can cultivate leadership qualities in the students at the inception stage of their life, it would go a long way in addressing the needs of the Industry. They need desired inputs in terms of knowledge and awareness on introducing timely new products or services, bringing distinctive competencies and developing innovative business models, etc. to address the global business demands. They need to bring innovation in governance and major changes in areas of nation building. These dynamic leaders will have the right blend of capabilities and knowledge, helping introduce timely and innovative citizen services, creating the right environment for global business. It is our motto to make ef fective efforts to make Leadership, a way of life.

The Programs recommended by PMIEF include, PMIEF Development for YEAR 12 STUDENT’S, LIFE PROJECT MANAGEMENT Workshops.

These programs allow students an exclusive day dedicated to “Leadership” and to the future of the nation( s). This would be a day where students:

* Gain aware n e s s on Leadership from various sectors - Industry, Academic, Gover nment and Social Leaders.

* Would be educated on the role they should play to take their nation into the league of developed and beyond.

* Current leaders would plan out the future direction for children, students without mixing up with the past and present issues.

* Would be recognized and rewarded for their all round performance and Leadership qualities.
