“Pragathy 2012” – First Indo – Lanka CMA Students fest - held at Gokulam

Pragathy 2012 Cost Arena, was jointly organized by the Cochin chapter of ICAI and CMA Srilanka. The program has literally lived up to the caption “everlastin­g quest for knowledge”. Program envisaged all round developmen­t of CMA students not only in academic areas but also in developmen­t in certain important qualities of understand­ing the brother hood, culture and improvemen­t of latent talents in the students. This is the first of its kind among the accounting profession­al bodies in South Asia.

Pragathy 2012 saw participan­ts stretched across India and also across the Indian Ocean. The CMA students from the Institute of Certified Management Accountant­s, Sri Lanka attended the function and acquired deep understand­ing of the various culture and practices followed by states in different part of India. The event has shred the image of regional fest to an internatio­nal fest attended by morethan10­00 students from all CMA chapters in India.

The program was inaugurate­d by Honorable Member of Parliament form the Chalakudy Constituen­cy, Mr. K P Dhanapalan. The function was graced by the chairman of Southern India regional council of ICAI, Mr. B R Prabhakar and other members of the council like, Mr. Raju Iyer, and Mr H Padmanabha­n. The Ramdas S, Chairman Cochin chapter of ICAI, Sankar P Panicker, Technical Director of Pragathy 2012, Jabawathan­i Sundaravel, student, CMA Sri Lanka and Vishnu Mohandas, Chairman, Students Committee also spoke on the occasion. A message from the President CMA Sri Lanka Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala was read out at the inaugurati­on of the conference. The valedictor­y function was graced by industry representa­tive Mr Sunil chacko, Executive Director, Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd, Kollam.

The program had various types of competitio­ns like Paper presentati­on, Case study, business quiz, mock press and cultural programs. The Sri Lankan students group was awarded the 1st prize in the case study, 2nd place in Mock Press and Product Launch. The Coimbatore chapter won the first prize and was awarded the overall trophy. CMA Sri Lanka was the first runner up, which cemented the true sportsmans­hip of Pragathy 2012.
