Udaya clinches Surendra Perera Memorial Challenge Trophy
The All-island Junior Ranking Table Tennis tournament organised by the Western Province Table Tennis Association was held at the indoor sports complexes of S Thomas’ College and Lalith Athulathmudali College on February 18 and 19.
Udaya Ranasinghe of Vidyartha College Kandy earned major honours as the overall best player to clinch the Surendra perera Memorial Challenge Trophy. Ranasinghe was adjudged the overall best player of the entire championships from 432 paddlers of both boys and girls.
Ranasinghe won the Under-18 boys singles event, Under-15 boys singles event, Under-18 mixed doubles event and emerged as runner-up of Under-18 boys doubles event. Umaya Tharakie of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda was adjudged the Most Outstanding Girls player of the tournament. Hansani Piumala of Anula Vidyalaya was outstanding in the final of the Under-12 Girls Singles and beat the more experienced Imasha de Silva of Dharmasoka Ambalangoda. D.H. Kolambage of Prajapathi Gothami BMV, Ambalangoda too was impressive in the Under-10 Girls Singles final as she went on to beat Ashika Sathsarani of Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda.
