After O/levels? The Monash University Foundation year at ANC offers a head start to an Australian degree

-

MUFY is a world recognized equivalent to A/ Levels and is accepted for entry into all Australian Universities and other top universities around the world.

Australia has been consistently ranked as the most popular destination for Sri Lankan students. Statistics as at June 2010 show that 6,870 Sri Lankan students are following tertiary education in Australia.^ The Australian education system is highly regulated and nationally structured, although administered on a state level, Australian schools, colleges and universities enjoy an international reputation for excellence.

For a student after O/ Levels, the Monash University Foundation Year has been designed and developed by Monash academics especially to assist with their transition to university. ANC Education is the provider of the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) in Sri Lanka. Locally, students can enter into preuniversity studies with O/ Level results where they study one year of foundation study. This allows them to start a prestigious Australian university degree 2 ½ - 3 years ahead of their peers.

MUFY has been delivered globally for over 20 years and is well respected by academics who understand the importance of thorough preparation of students for tertiary study. It is a qualification that is equivalent to A/levels and is simply another pathway for a student to enter an international university.

“The curriculum in MUFY is one of the most advanced Australian curricula and on par with modern teaching methods. This system is ‘ student centered’ rather than ‘ teacher centered’ which is, unfortunately, the system that makes up the A/levels. It is a programme that focuses on the process rather than the product. Each day in the programme is a new lear ning experience which enhances the knowledge, skills and creativity of students. Just because it’s a one year programme it is not inferior to the two year A/ Level programme” says Mr. M. Naufa l o o n , Academic Head of the MUFY program at ANC.

Elaborating further, Mr. Naufaloon said “a key focus of MUFY is on what the student learns as against the traditional A/ Level focus on final examination. The continuous assessment process provides this evaluation and contributes to 50% of the final mark. Students are evaluated on activities like project work, group studies, case studies, field trips, research work etc. which assist them to develop their own learning skills, training them to do such independent work in university. The universities, too, expect students to do their own learning, but, unfortunately, A/ Levels hardly provides that training, it is more theoretical and exam oriented”

For many MUFY students, the programme serves as an academic and cultural bridge from the education in their home country to the social and academic environment of an Australian university. MUFY prepares students for their desired Australian degree in a variety of areas including Engineering, Business, Information Te c h n o l o g y, Ar t s , Medicine, Biosciences, Law, and much more.

Students can select from a variety of subjects specifically tailored to lead them to the degree of their choice. Assessment is based on internal performance and examinations set by qualified academics from Monash University Australia and emphasis is placed on steady performance throughout the program. This enables students to acquire the initiative and skills necessary to succeed in a university environment.

Upon successful completion of the MUFY program, students are provided with a direct entry into a wide range of de g rees at Monash University on achieving the required scores. Monash University is ranked internationally as one of only 7 Australian Universities in the world’s top 200 *and is in the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) top universities in Australia.

Monash University is acclaimed for its research excellence, quality of teaching and diversity of courses offered.

With eight state- of- the art campuses across Australia, Malaysia and South Africa, Monash University is a truly global university with a diverse and multicultural atmosphere.

MUFY has a track record as a successful pathway to other prestigious Australian universities. With thousands of students worldwide wishing to be admitted into prestigious universities in Australia, it is reassuring to know the recognition of MUFY by all the prestigious Australian universities.
