Highway magnate wins at golf

-

Dian Jayasuriya, Managing Director of a leading construction company specializing in Highway and Bridge construction, led the Capri Club to a famous victory in the Inter-club Invitational Golf Tournament played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

The innovative Inter-club Golf Tournament played by the Golfers representing their “Second Club” other than Golf has gathered much momentum, interest and participation.

The Carl Fernando, Inter-club Invitation Challenge Trophy inaugurated in 2010, the brainchild of Carl Fernando St Peters, CH&FC and All Ceylon Ruggerite in the sixties/seventies and now a keen golfer was played on a ‘Stable-ford Points Aggregate’ score with the best two scores counting, out of a three member team.

The Capri Club combination led by Dian Jayasuriya a top Golf Administrator, proved his ability as a player notching up 36 points, the highest score returned for the day and Banjo Perera (28 Points) totalled 64 to defeat the Dutch Burgher Union (DBU) pair of John Attygalle and Sunil de Costa.

The Capri Club victory was emphatic and sweet as they defeated the DBU, the winner in the inaugural year 2010. Last year’s winners Colombo Swimming Club were out of the reckoning this year.

Five Clubs represented by 14 players participated, with ironically the winners Capri Club fielding only a ‘two-man team’ with their third member indisposed. All other clubs had the luxury of counting the two best scores out of the ‘Three Man Team’. This underlines the most credible win for Capri Club spearheaded by Dian Jayasuriya former Captain and President of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, President and current Vice President of the Sri Lanka Golf Union returning the clear best individual score.
