There is exciting news for Bio Science students in Sri Lanka. Now there is an opportunity to enter into the rewarding Bio-medical and Health Science career. The medical science field has become highly demanding due to the large number of medical practitioners that enter the profession each year from overseas universities. The demand for medical graduates increase every year for Sri Lanka & overseas. The limited supply from Sri lankan University system creates a high demand for foreign medical graduates in Sri Lanka. SLMC accepts only limited universities as approved course providers in medicine. The degrees obtained by these Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGS) is merely a certification of successful completion of a specified course of students in the field of medicine. In most countries the degree along does not empower the graduate to practice medicine, and in Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) requires all FMGS to take the Examination for Registration to Practice Medicine (ERPM) in Sri Lanka (Formerly ACT16). However only the FMGS who have graduated from medical schools recognized by the SLMC are allowed to apply for ERPM. A list of such recognized schools is yearly updated and available free of charge to the public at the SLMC. SLMC accepts only limited universities as appropriate course providers in Medicine.

IMU have expanded its undergraduate programmes beyond medical, pharmacy and nursing programmes to dentistry and health sciences programmes. IMU believes that its courses are to be progressive and innovative, and strive to use best practices in their delivery and assessment. In tandem with the introduction of these new programmes, the IMU has embarked on the expansion of its facilities at the Bukit Jalil campus. For many years IMU have upheld a proud record of funding for research, and we have established a solid reputation for research achievements in many different fields and across many different disciplines. This reputation has attracted talented teachers and students to the University, further enhancing the quality of our research. Research is important for teaching as the former feeds into the latter and teaching that is not grounded in research is mere speculation.

MESSAGE FROM IMU INTERNATIONAL MARKETING MANAGER

First and foremost, I am pleased to announce the appointment of ANC as our Official Overseas Representative in Sri Lanka. This partnership signals yet another milestone in our effort to widen access to professional healthcare education, and to use innovative, integrated and student-centred means in providing that education.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate ANC for organising its first education exhibition. This exhibition serves an important platform for students and parents to obtain valuable information and career advice. I strongly encourage all ANC students to join me to grace this important event. With best wishes, Sebastian Loh Manager (International Marketing) International Medical University, Malaysia
