ET School workshop in Badulla a huge success…….
The second successful Workshop and a Quiz competition organized by Education Times and Mirror Education of Wijeya Newspapers were held at Badulla Provincial Library Hall on 2nd March, 2012. This time, the Sri Lankan Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI) also joined with Education Times in organizing the workshop. It was a sensational success with the participation of more than 700 A/L students from 12 leading schools in Badulla District.
The two artistic comperes Miss. Linsey Amanda Silva and Miss. Nethmi Menaka Liyanage of Badulla Madya Maha Vidyalaya initiated the event withtheirpleasant greetings and carried the whole event in an interesting manner. The welcome speech was delivered by Mrs. V.b.krishanthini, a teacher of Uva Highlands Tamil Maha Vidyalaya.
The programme took off to a flying start with a fascinating Quiz Programme organized by the Education Times, with the participation of twelve school teams from Badulla District. The writer of this article acted as the quiz master. The quiz encompassed of five rounds of questions based on five themes -Current Affairs, Sports, Science & Technology, Art/ History/ Literature/ Entertainment and General Knowledge, each round with eight questions. This was organized as a team event, with five mem- bers in each team. At the end of each round scores were displayed on the presentation screen which brought the audience to an extreme excitement. But the declaring of winners was done at the end to keep them biting their nails.
The next session of the event was one of the most awaited events in this workshop covering leadership skills, conducted by a facilitator from Education Times. This workshop was enjoyed by all the students as well as teachers which was a new experience to them.
The session that followed was a short demonstration given by one of the sponsors, Mr. Ranmal Fonseka Regional Manager (Ratnapura/badulla&ara) of Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd, who also enlightened the students on leadership skills.
The third session was done covering Project Management skills, which was conducted by Mr.hugo Wisidagama, President of PMI Sri Lankan Chapter. The session was significant and the students earned a vast knowledge in Project Management which could help them in the preparation of their Advanced level examination as well.
The final session of the event was the declaration of the winners of the quiz competition and the award ceremony. Mr. Priyanga Weerasinghe, a teacher of Badulla Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Mr. Hugo Wisidagama, President of PMI and Mr. Ranmalfonseka Regional Manager of Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd., were presented as the guests at the award ceremony to distribute th e awa rd s . Badullamadyamahavidyalayasecuredthe championship of the Quiz Competition, emerging as the best in the district. Badulla Uva Maha Vidyalaya emerged the 1strunnuers- up while Badulla Oxford International School obtained the 2nd runners-up. The winners were awarded gift vouchers sponsored by Sarasavibook Shop and a set of Cricket equipment sponsored by Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd. All the winning team members awarded a valuable book sponsored by Wijeya Newspapers.
Bringing the closure of the event, vote of thanks was delivered by Miss. Shana Boram, a student of Badulla Viharamahadevi Balikamaha Vidyalaya. The event was backed by ICBT Kandy Campus, DFCC Bank Badulla Branch, E-wis, Bank of Ceylon and Mobitel (Pvt.) Ltd affording their enthusiastic involvement with their sponsorships which aided formulating the event a greattriumph.
