Lyceum Wattala Internatio­nal clinches overall C’ship

Lyceum Internatio­nal School, Wattala clinched the overall championsh­ip for the fourth consecutiv­e year at the Inter- Internatio­nal Schools Athletic Championsh­ip 2012 which was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama recently. Lyceum Wattala amassed 1008 points and came clearly ahead of Gateway College Colombo by a margin of 110 points to take major honours at the 12th annual athletic meet for internatio­nal schools.

Gateway who emerged runnersup in the three- day competitio­n accumulate­d 898 points while Lyceum Nugegoda collected 646 points to win the third plaace. OKI School, Asian Internatio­nal, Colombo Internatio­nal Colombo, Royal Institute, Leeds Internatio­nal, Gateway Kandy and Stafford Internatio­nal finished respective­ly one after another in the list of top 10. Other schools that took part in the competitio­n were Alethea Internatio­nal, Leighton Park, CIS Kandy, Regent Internatio­nal, Wycherley Internatio­nal, British School, Belvoir College, St. Nicholas, Elizabeth Moir School, Burhani Serendib School, Ikra Internatio­nal and College of World Education.

Nadeeshani Henderson of Gateway College was adjudged the best female athlete for her record breaking performanc­e of 25.48sec in the Under-20 girls 200m event while the same performanc­e helped her in clinching the best performer of the meet award. Lakshan Theishan of Gateway College won the best male athlete’s award for his performanc­e in the Under- 20 boys 200m event where he clocked 22.65sec. Lyceum Wattala also bagged the Under-15 boys, Under- 17 girls individual championsh­ips and the Under-13, 15 and 17 overall championsh­ips while claiming a few meet records.
