‘Gowen Amuththek Evith’, a book written by senior lecturer Kusum Waidyaratne on Blessed Joseph Vas who is well known as the Apostle of Sri Lanka is to be made in to a movie.

Waidyaratne, a director of teleplay and stage plays launched his second book ‘Gowen Amuththek Evith’ (A Meek Brown Man from Goa) recently and he is getting ready to release it as a cinematic production. Graduated in Mass Communication and Archaeology, Kusum started his career as a journalist contributing to number national newspapers. His first novel was ‘Hithuwakkari’ and Kusum has three stage plays ‘Ge Kurullo’, ‘Pathini’ and ‘Cinderella’ to his credit. In 2000 Kusum scripted and directed 12-eposode teleplay ‘Ula Leno’ and it was telecast on national television.

His latest book ‘Gowen Amuththek Evith’ is the result of years of research carried out by ‘The Harvest’ research institute on Sri Lankan history and Blessed Joseph Vas who rebuilt the Catholic church in Sri Lanka during the difficult times of Dutch persecution. The book has captured the historical details of Blessed Joseph Vas and his visit to the island disguised as a mendicant in 1687. Blessed Joseph Vas’ mission included days of travels throughout the island bringing the Eucharist and the sacraments to clandestine groups of Catholics until he found shelter in the Kandyan kingdom where he was able to work freely. Kusum an experienced audio-visual artiste is searching for a producer to join him to make ‘Gowen Amuththek Evith’ to a cinemati production.
