The Anthonians rose Phonix-like from the Ashes of their Big Match loss seven days ago to inflict a stunning ten run defeat on Trinity in their Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy limited over game at Katugastota.
Trinity paceman Amrit Sri Mahan cut through the early batting to have the home team at 28 for 4. Skipper Kanishka Ranarajah batted with dedication and discipline to top score in the match with 73. His 84 run stand for the fifth wicket with Saranga Rajaguru turned the tide.
The target was gettable and Dikwella blazed away at the start. However off spinners Nimesha Gurusinghe and Sachin Bulathsinghala kept chipping away at the underpressure Trinity batsmen.
Rajitha Jayatunga batted with cool composure and well chosen aggression to make 53 and almost take his side over the wire.
The series tally now stands at 17 wins for St. Anthony’s, 14 to Trinity with one match ending in a no decision.
