Nineteen year old Seyeda Mowhiba Hibshy Mowlana stole the show at the convocation of CIMA being the first individual to win 2 World prizes in one diet at the November 2011 examinations. Seyeda won world prizes for Performance Operations and Financial Operations by obtaining 94 and 92 marks respectively. Twenty six year old Anushka Madurasinghe, a graduate was the second student awarded the world prize for the CPGA paper by securing 79 marks. In addition to these three awards there were 15 Sri Lankan prize winners and 300 exam completes were recognised for their outstanding performances at the bi- annual convocation held on the 12 and 14 March at the Cinnamon Grand and Galadari hotels respectively.
Mr Harold Baired, CIMA’S Global President who was on his official visit to Srilanka was the Chief Guest Honouring their achievements at the convocation he commented that
‘I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to the 318 students who have completed their written examinations, the 274 new ACMAS, the 27 new FCMAS and the 15 prize winners on their accomplishments. You are part of a global CIMA community of 195,000 students and members in 176 countries that is uniquely skilled in developing organisations that are both successful and sustainable.
To become a member of CIMA, you have to be passionate about business and finance. The institute is not ashamed of the fact that its syllabus is rigorous and demanding. Those who join the CIMA community have proved themselves to be first class finance professionals with the potential to become the business leaders of the future.
Moreover, a growing number of businesses are employing chartered management accountants because CIMA’S syllabus is underpinned by an emphasis on ethics and good governance. This means our members are not only the best management accountants in the world but they work with an adherence to integrity that is essential if businesses are to prosper in the long term.
CIMA’S global reputation for training first class finance professionals has been significantly enhanced by our joint venture with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). This is an excellent synergy as the AICPA is the world’s largest accountancy association and CIMA is the largest international body representing man- agement accountants.
On January 31st this year, the AICPA and CIMA launched a new designation - the Chartered Global Management Accountant. All CIMA’S members automatically gained the CGMA letters following the launch. Our new partnership combines the strength of the AICPA in North America with CIMA’S presence in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The CGMA designation therefore provides a huge opportunity to place management accountants on a truly global platform for business excellence.
Finally, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all the family members, tuition providers, employers, colleagues and friends who have provided valuable support to students throughout their studies and to members as they take on greater responsibility in their careers.
