Balangoda Hindu sets up high education standards Schools
Balangoda Hindu College is a reputed Tamil school in the Ratnapura District which is playing a major role in educational achievements of Tamil Community. The students are instilled with high discipline and Tamil cultural values.
The school was inaugurated in 1935 as Rye Vidyalayam with 10 students and 2 teachers. The first p r i n c i p a l w a s M r. S. Mailvaganam. In 1953 the school was declared as a government School. Since then the school has shown rapid development both in education as well as its infrastructure. Subsequently the school was re- named as Balangoda Hindu College in 2004.
Seventy six years have passed since the founding of Balangoda Hindu College and now the college with more than 700 students and 40 teachers endeavour to keep up the high standard it has set. The present principal is the forerunner of the elaboration of the school who has been serving in the school since 1985. During this period he has shown quite a lot of development and its physical resources have increased. The Computer Unit CLC launched during his service period obtained 15th place in Computer Lab Management and has gained ICT Excellency Award in the Sabaragamuwa Province. He has succeeded in the establishment of A/L Arts stream in the school as well.
Since its inception, thousands of students have sauntered in and out of its gateways and all of whom have placed their deep-seated mark on the school. Hindu College has proved itself each year by producing good results in the public examinations. Annually the grade 5 scholarship examination brings high reputation to the school with district rankings. In 2011 Mas. D. Krishan obtained first rank in the district scoring 184 marks. This is truly a great achievement.
They take pleasure in having
done well at nearly 70% in their G. C. E.( O/ L) examinations and 100% in their G.C.E.(A/L) examinations. They have produced many undergraduates from the Ratnapura District for local universities annually.
In the recent years the school has improved vastly in aesthetic activities as well. The students of Balangoda Hindu College have earned a good status in All Island Tamil Day Competitions and have won so many medals. The school dancing Group won the Gold in the Provincial Tamil day competitions during the past years.
The Kalai Vizha, the musical & dancing concert was held on September 2008 at Hindu College on a grand scale for the first time. Miss Vi t hya Jeyarajan ( M-music) has given the necessary training and the guidance to make this concert a success. The Staff, OSA, and SDS have made a great contribution so as to make this event effective and colourful. Shakthi FM and Thinakkural has given their support in media sponsorship. This was the grand event that they have celebrated with great pomp.
The knowledgeable principals, the high caliber of teachers, and their dedicated services in the past and present, has shot the college into the pole position of education in Ratnapura district. All these attempts inculcate human values, improve the competence of students and persuade them to reach higher levels. As a result they go through with the vision and mission of the school of being best in the District.
