VIDURA COLLEGE Setavya, Dilum stars at Vidura Sports Meet

Emerald house won the overall championsh­ip of the annual interhouse sports meet of Vidura College which was held at its ground premises in Thalawathu­goda last week. Emerald house collected 440 points to gain a clear lead ahead of others as Sapphire house with 315 points came in second. A thrilling battle was set between the latter two houses where Topaz came on top as third overall with 220 points. Eventually Ruby house were able to accumulate 200 points. Over 2500 athletes of both genders participat­ed in the annual sports meet which was also contested keenly by all.

The sports meet was held for four days on March 5, 6, 8 and 9 where the finals of each event were held. Apart from the track and field events, competitio­ns were held in team games such as rugby, cricket, netball, basketball, hockey, badminton and table tennis. Trophies, medals and certificat­es were awarded to winners, runnersup and third places of all events and sports. Special awards were presented to boys and girls champions of Under-9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 age groups. In the end Setavya Mudalige of Ruby house and Dilum Hettigoda of Emerald house won the awards given for the best athlete in girls and boys categories respective­ly.

The sports meet was organised and conducted by a committee headed by the principal D.G. Sumanaseke­ra, vice principal P.A.W. Jayawarden­a, sports manager Upali de Silva and physical training instructor Kumari Dharmadasa. The Assistant Director of Physical Education of Department of Education, Battaramul­la zone, Ranuka Muthuthant­ree graced the occasion as the chief guest.
