SLIIT enrols students from Asia and Africa for new intake

SLIIT, the pioneering institute for Informatio­n Technology has ushered in a new era of academic excellence in Sri Lanka, now offering students from Africa and South Asia valuable academic pathways through the institutes globally recognised range of degree programmes and through its global partner universiti­es.

SLIIT has enrolled about 20 students from Nigeria and three students from Pakistan, Nepal and Maldives. “We have received numerous enquiries from Africa, as these students are interested in the academic programmes offered at SLIIT as well as the off- shore programmes offered through the institute” explains Professor S. Karunaratn­e, Chairman of SLIIT.

“This demand from overseas allows SLIIT to provide valuable educationa­l opportunit­ies for students in neighbouri­ng regions. These students receive the best prospects not only academical­ly but also in terms of a wholistic education” notes Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO of SLIIT. Students can avail themselves of SLIIT’S array of degree programmes in the streams of Informatio­n Technology, Business Management and Electronic Engineerin­g, as well a whole host of facilities and extracurri­cular activities geared to provide students with a well-rounded education.

Cheta and Bushra, students from Nigeria and Pakistan who recently enrolled at SLIIT to pursue degree programmes in Informatio­n Technology, noted that the facilities at SLIIT are of a very high standard overall. “The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they encourage students not only to succeed academical­ly but also place focus on extracurri­cular activities to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education” further notes Bushra. The institute is committed to fostering an environmen­t which nurtures top-notch profession­als who will make a contributi­on to society through both their academic and career choices as well as their personal achievemen­ts.

SLIIT boasts five educationa­l centres located around the island, with the main campuses situated in Malabe and Colombo and three centres at Matara, Kandy and Jaffna, making academic resources available to a wider student population. The institute has produced more than 50% of Sri Lanka’s IT / BPO profession­als for the workforce to date, marking a significan­t contributi­on to the country’s 5th largest export earner.
