'Our main mission is to evolve competitive dance in Sri Lanka to a form so sophisticated that it develops into a national sport' said Dharshan Wijesooriya, Founder and President of the Lanka Dancesport Council

'We come across uniquely gifted Ballroom and Latin dancers in Sri Lanka every day. As a body, we hope to collectively nurture their passion and spirit for the art and offer them the opportunity of perhaps one day swirling to compete for the Gold on a global stage' he added

The rhythm of dance has been pulsating in the blood of Sri Lankans for as far as anyone can remember. From ancient native forms, to provincial dance arts, to contemporary forms of indigenous dance, to western dancing (Ballroom and Latin dancing, Ballet etc) and now, dancesport.

While competitive Ballroom and Latin dancing has been around in Sri Lanka since the 1940’s, it is now a highly competitive sport. The Lanka Dancesport Council aims to encourage everyone who would like to take dancing on to a professional level or even as a hobby. The event includes a Free Theme Workshop which will be continued with each monthly follow up purely for this purpose.

Recognizing the council’s contribution and key role in the future of dancesport in Sri Lanka, Dialog Axiata have tied up with the LDC as official sponsors for all their upcoming events. The LDC website- www.srilankadancesport.com is also onset in order for all dances island wide to get more information on the council .

The Lanka Dancesport Council, World Dancesport Council’s representation in Sri Lanka is dedicated to lead the industry’s evolution from dance to dancesport.
